The Rise of Gucci in the 21st Century

When it comes to fashion and clothing in general, you might say that I don't have the most eclectic collection or the most knowledge on the subject, but one thing that I have noticed is how popular Gucci has become in recent years.

I wanted to understand how Gucci became the most wanted high fashion brands because it's hard to ignore it when you see every celebrity, artist, musician, fashion blogger and more all repping the brand.

I don't think there's a day where I don't see the Gucci logo.

Although I must admit I too have fallen in love with the Gucci brand, my first every Gucci purchase was a timeless timepiece that I'm hoping will get passed down from generation to generation within my family. I then bought one of there perfumes the Gucci Flora, which makes me feel fancy and boogie at the same time - although I don't own any of there clothing, because I think it's a ridiculous notion to spend £500+ on a cotton t-shirt, plus I don't have that kind of money to spend.

Anyways, after doing some research on how the mighty brand has regained mainstream popularity, this is what I want to share with you.

Let's start off with Gucci's history; Gucci was founded in 1921 in Florence, Italy by a man named Guccio Gucci (I am not joking), which makes Gucci one of the oldest high fashion brands at the ripe old age of 97.

Gucci started off by creating high end fashion items using leather and other high quality materials. Additionally, Guccio became intrigued by people's luxurious luggage when he worked as a hotel assitant in Paris and later London. After returning to his home, where the world's best craftsmanship is created, he decided to open up a shop and start selling leather goods.

His three sons began to help out with the store and later expanded into Milan and Rome.

Gucci has become an influential, innovative and progressive high end fashion brand. They are known as the pinnacle of Italian craftsmanship. Although they did have a very rough patch during the 2000's with there controversial advertising and several law suits. It was time for a change and an image revamp, to get the people interested again.

That's where current creative director Alessandro Michele comes is, the quiet director has been in the Gucci gang since 2002 and has managed to work his way up to creative director (and rightfully so) He began in his position as leader of product offering and branding of Gucci, re-positioning it for the luxury market with new collections and a new store design template. This began the new life of Gucci, where people were starting to realise that this high-end fashion brand was back and better than ever.

Fast forward to now, where Gucci has re-established itself as a brand that everyone should be wearing (even you). Alessandro Michele has created incredible pieces of clothing from floral print garments to fur lined shoes and so much more. Gucci has taken its newfound fame and capitalised on it, using celebrities as leverage - from hip hop artists like the Migos to highly acclaimed actresses like Cate Blanchet; Gucci is everywhere!

Most recently Lil Pump came out with the song Gucci Gang - “Gucci Gang” is a group that consists of Lil Pump and SmokePurpp along with other rappers from Florida. Lil Pump even has a Gucci logo tattooed across his chest. If this doesn't show dedication to a brand, then I don't what does.

Bloggers, celebrities, buyers and fashion editors have once again fallen in love with the Gucci brand. This is a story of how when you hit rock bottom the only way is up and that's exactly what Gucci has managed to do.
