The Rise of CGI Social Media Influencers

It seems that we're slowly turning into the world we have always been afraid to become where robots exist and now cgi social media influencers are taking the digital marketing/social media world by storm.

I'm not sure how I feel about this because in one hand its pretty cool to see sim-like avatars become a weird popular thing but on the other it's slightly terrifying that these cgi made people are taking over the fashion world where it will no longer become as genuine when it comes to social media influencers having a say on what they think of the brand/clothing they have been given.

Whereas with real influencers they promote products that they're passionate about or can give real feedback into what they're purchasing whereas cgi influencers can only really be positive and not genuine because they have no feeling and the real people that run those accounts probably get paid a lot to promote brands in a good light no matter what it is.

According to CBS This Morning, computer generated social media influencers are a growing trend in an industry that is projected to hit £1.5 billion by 2020.

For example lets look a Lil Miquela who is a street wear fashion cgi social media influences that has amassed over 1.3 million followers. She was created by Trevor McFredries and Sara Decou of roboritc/AI company Brud

She has worked with brands like Supreme, Diesel, Gucci, Prada and more. She even recently got the cover of High Snobiety and I just can't get over how weird yet magnificent this truly is. The rise of these computer generate influencers feels like something out of a sci-fi movie mixed with America's Next Top Model. She even has a wikipedia page, where she is described as "The narrative presents Miquela as a sentient digital art".

Then there is Shudu, who some call the world's first digital supermodel. Created by London-based photographer and designer Cameron-James Wilson, says she was inspired by a Barbie doll. Shudu's first fashion appearance was on Women's Wear Daily. She's even been re posted by Rihanna's Fenty Beauty make up line.

These two cgi's aren't the only ones around; there is also blawko22 (134k followers) and bermuda (83.1k), which apparently they all know each other and have some type of beef.

To conclude I genuinely feel like we are now really living in a simulation.
