Drake's Care Package

In a world where music is constantly being churned out and becoming more fleeting rather  than a piece of art to stand the test of time. Drake has compiled a playlist of songs from his past projects and  B-Sides between the years 2010 - 2016.

Care Package brings back memories to times of where Drake was a much more sensitive soul and proves just have different his music has become and how it has shaped who he is now, as an artist. During his creative peak, from 2011's Take Care to 2015's If you're reading this its too late. Drake processed his music through memory including tracks like 'Marvin's Room' with snippets of voicemails and never forgetting his roots with tracks like 'You and the 6'.

Listening to this compilations of old Drake songs reminds me that this isn't who he is anymore and in October he'll be 33 and long gone is the person he used to be. Care Package is a reminder that people change and grow and you can't compare someones past to their future or present. Drake's narrative has changed from being an emotional young man with lyrics 'I'm having trouble adjusting to fame' to now being one of the biggest hip hop artists in the world, including his most recent single Money in the Grave 'I was on top when that shit meant a lot, Still on top like I'm scared of the drop'.

Many of these songs find Drake looking into his rawest and deepest emotions while using R&B textures and moods, speaking to a broad audience while still maintaining a singular perspective. There are tracks here that winningly delve into vulnerability, defeat, fear of failure—subjects his music rarely addresses anymore. Tracks like 'The Motion' seems to hit differently now, compared to 5 years ago.

Care Package proves that some songs can stand the test of time and  there's nothing more to it.
