Is Jay-Z's Tidal Worth It?

Tidal came into a quick start on October 2014 and has only been around for 8 months!

Jay-Z decided that he wanted to go against one of the largest streaming websites Spotify and to be honest it has put up quite the fight. With artists like Taylor Swift removing her whole catalog from Spotify and moving it to Tidal was a shitty move to be honest.

Although there is a lot of opinions when it comes to music streaming there is no denying that it has now become the forefront of the music industry and everyone just needs to adapt to it. With even Apple jumping on the bandwagon with there new AppleMusic, which is due to be released soon. Although one of the biggest problems of the streaming industry is that artists don't get paid as much as they believe they should.

"Recently, these variables have led to an average “per stream” payout to rights holders of between $0.006 and $0.0084. This combines activity across our tiers of service. The effective average “per stream” payout generated by our Premium subscribers is considerably higher." (Spotify, 2014) which isn't a lot when it comes to smaller/independent artists they won't be making enough money.

I believe that Tidal is probably the worst idea of streaming mostly because you have to pay £20 a month for 'exclusive products and hi-fi music' (which, i have no idea what hi-fi music even is but apparently it's meant to be great) from music videos to the newest single of an artist and you can't even have the choice of having a free subscription like Spotify offers. But possibly the most annoying thing about Tidal is the fact that artists are now dropping there music videos solely for the purpose of Tidal subscribers which completely cuts out possibly 85% of there fan base who can't afford Tidal and much prefer the artist upload videos onto Vevo which is a free website that people can watch music videos. I feel like music itself has become only for the money and nothing else which is quite sad to be honest because I believe artists should make music because they love it and if the money comes a long then great! I do believe that every artist should get paid for there work because no one deserves to have someone's work for free but there are better ways to go about it instead of using Tidal all because Jay-Z runs it.

These are just some of the artists that have signed onto Tidal:

Jay Z, BeyoncéRihannaKanye WestNicki MinajDaft PunkJack WhiteMadonnaArcade FireAlicia KeysUsherChris MartinCalvin Harrisdeadmau5Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift and J. Cole.

In conclusion I think Tidal is a waste of money and people shouldn't buy into this concept.

Just to give you something to watch, here's Madonna's new music video which was put onto Tidal first.
