This is not a break up record it's a redemption record.
It's taken me a couple of days to finally be able to write about possibly the best album of the year. But I wanted to get it right.
It's been three years since Adele rose to fame with her incredible second album '21' and I think no one would believe that she would be able to top the success of that album. Although I like to believe that '25' isn't a continuation of '21' because they are two completely different albums. One's a break up and one's a redemption and we have to understand that Adele isn't just another artist she is THE artist. There's no one like her anymore, she's successful purely because of her talent; not because of her private life or publicity stunts. She's one of few artists that still hasn't been on tour and yet had the greatest selling album of the year back in 2011!
Adele's '25' is 11 tracks of pure nostalgia and realising that you're worth something. It makes you think about yourself and not some random ex of yours.
For example my favourite song on the album is a track titled 'A Million Years Ago' the first time I heard the song I just started crying because it made so much sense to me and I realised in some way I'm going through that stage of growing up where I have to let go of my parents and I have to become my own person. With a simple guitar tune and Adele's beautiful vocals it just works; lyrics like 'I feel like my life is flashing by / And all I can do is watch and cry / I miss the air, I miss my friends / I miss my mother; I miss it when / Life was a party to be thrown / But that was a million years ago' really makes you realise how fast life goes by and it does feel like a million years ago where life was so much easier and we were younger.
Speaking of when we were younger Adele's second single she's released is called 'When We Were Young' which I interpreted it to be a song about that crush you have when you're really young and there's always that one boy that you believed was the love of your life because it was the first time you ever felt those feelings. With lyrics like "You still look like a movie / you still sound like a song / my god this reminds me / of when we were young" it makes you believe that this person is still the same when you were young and life was easier and happier back then. That's when nostalgia kicks in and everyone can relate to this song because we're getting older and people change and when you meet or see that person that you once loved when you were 15 it takes you back to those days. With lyrics like "we were sad of getting old it made us restless / oh i'm so mad we're getting old it makes me reckless" again as I mentioned before it's nostalgia were getting older and it's driving us crazy cause it's like our lives are just going by and there isn't much we can do.
In conclusion I've been listening to this album for the past three days and I keep finding new ways of understanding it. Not to mention that Adele hasn't made her album available for Spotify which means you either have to buy it on iTunes or get out of your house and go buy the physical album (which is what I did) and I hadn't bought a physical album since February and it just made listening to the album and even better experience. From going to HMV to coming home, opening the packaging and putting it into my laptop and then plugging the speakers and just lying in bed and listening to a true artistic album.
Well Done Adele you've done it! I'm proud of you.
Album: 5/5 (I recommend this album to everyone I know)
