Fyre Festival: The Biggest Scam Of All Time

In case you've been living under a rock. You may not have heard about Fyre Festival. Netflix & Hulu recently released a documentary on the fiasco that was Fyre. I finally had the opportunity to watch Netflix's documentary (as Hulu isn't available in the UK).

I remember back in 2017 when everyone was talking about this festival. My social media was covered in sponsored posts, with the biggest influencers, celebrities and more co-signing this event. It sounded like they were selling this incredible dream as if Instagram came to life. It was set in the Bahamas, an Island names Exumas.

 Expectations

                                      Reality

Fyre Festival was created and co-founded by a wannabe rich dude named Billy McFarland and Hip-Hop Mogul Ja Rule, which gave it an even more legit look. Whilst watching the documentary there were a few things that stood out to me. Here is a list:

1. When Billy was constantly partying and getting drunk, instead of actually preparing for this "one in a lifetime festival".

2. JA Rule genuinely believed that they didn't commit fraud but instead 'false advertisement' - which I'm pretty sure it's the same thing.

3. Event producer Andy King said that he was prepared to suck d*** for customs to release the gallons of Evian water to the festival.

4. How did not one single "influencer" not realise that this festival was BS

5. How Billy McFarland managed to pull the biggest fraud of all time and convinced investors to spend millions of dollars on nothing but a pipe dream.

When it comes to organising an event of any scale, especially at the scale they were trying to go for. You would need at least 24 months of planning before you could even start hiring people to do advertisement, website building and much more. The craziest part of this whole Fyre fiasco is that the people involved in this are of highly esteemed professionals from the F*** Jerry PR Company to the supermodels, including Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Chanel Iman all promoting a festival that they didn't even understand.
