Today I woke up to the news that Camila Cabello is releasing a duet with Shawn Mendes next week called 'I Know what you did last summer' which to me sounds like a Fallout boy song track. Jokes aside I have noticed that many 5H fans are upset about this duet. I think the reason fans have become hurt by this is the fact that Camila is actually (incase you didn't know) in a girl group who just recently won Billboards 'Group of the Year' for women in music, which is a huge deal in itself! But now it's been shadowed by the fact that she's releasing a solo single with Shawn Mendes.
I understand that each individual in a group have there own interests and hobbies but in the 5 years that One Direction were together they never once put out a solo song because that would generate the idea that one of them was going solo. Although Zayn Malik left he never in his 1D career made it seem to the fans that it was something that he was wanting to do.
Now back to Fifth Harmony... I think the idea of these 'side projects' in itself is a terrible one just because it gets the fans worried. Fans begin to think that the artist doesn't want to be in the group, these 'side projects' slowly but surely become the main project and that's when things go wrong.
Fifth Harmony are supposed to be a group but when something like this happens the spotlight goes on the artist that has done something without the group, which is controversial. Fans begin to see the cracks in the group and it just isn't good. Especially knowing that 5H are recording there second album and instead of Camila promoting that she's promoting a solo record. In the 10 years of being addicted to groups I have never seen or heard of one of the artists to drop a solo single whilst still in the group.
My final thought is that I think Fifth Harmony are coming to an end even though there career has only just begun. But we have to remember that they did audition for The XFactor as solo artists and maybe Camila has used Fifth Harmony as a platform to launch here solo career. In I way I think it would be a good idea if she just left the band and let the rest of the girls do what they love and that's being in the group.
