The Life of Pryde

Russel Llantino, known by his stage name Pryde was born 13th October 1993 is a Canadian rapper from Brampton, Ontario.

Pryde started his rap career almost 10 years ago, when he started posting his raps online at the age of 14. That’s when he decided he was going to pursue a professional rap career. Many of his rap tracks are uploaded onto YouTube, many of which are accompanied with music videos.

When Pryde was 16 he was signed by underground record label Mars Music Group, in which he then released his first mixtape through the label, titled MARS on June 2011. After the mixtape dropped Pryde went on his first tour around Canada, performing along with J.Cole. As of 2012, Pryde signed to record label, BMG. Which he then released his EP under BMG ‘Canal and Richvale’ which went on to become a physical copy that was only available in Canada and New York.

Pryde has become the forefront of DIY music, from his content on his YouTube channel to his touring. He prides himself on being an entrepreneur/connoisseur of hip hop music. He is living proof that if you set your mind to it and surround yourself with people that want the same vision as yo, you can go far.

In 2015 Pryde’s mother, Rosalie Llantino passed away from cancer, after suffering for more than three years. He went on to release "Rest Of My Life" on YouTube in her memory. He has also revived his mothers flower shop ‘fleur de lysze’ and has turned in into a beautiful memorial for her.

After his mother passed away, Pryde fell into a depression and in 15th June 2016, he attempted to commit suicide. As a fan of Pryde and following his career since the beginning it was hard to understand why such a talented man would want to take his life away. But following his career made me understand that he has had to deal with a lot in his life and sometimes it gets too much for the person. I was relieved and happy to hear that Pryde was on the road to recovery.

LOVERBOY

Loverboy is Pryde latest project, that he has released on all music platforms. It is definitely an EP that will catapult him into the stardom that he deserves. It is also the resurrection of Pryde coming back into a healthier headspace, which really shows with his new music videos, blogs and merchandise.

In Loverboy, Pryde shows how well he can rap but also sing. This EP has a much more R&B feel to it, with every song meshing well with one another. It is a body work that you don’t need to let a song skip, as every track is good in its own right. With this release Pryde has become a fully fledged artist, he reminds me of his Canadian counterpart Drake, with his quick flows, hard beats and catchy tunes.

Discography
Pryde has never released a sophomore album, instead all of his music has been free. Since 2008 Pryde has been releasing a ton of great free music; including 3 EPs and 9 mixtapes. He makes most of his income from touring and selling merchandise.

The evolution Pryde
Here is a visual version of how far Pryde has come inspired by Nathan Zed’s evolution of rap videos.
