The Greatest Showman Truly Is The Greatest Show!

I’m no film critic but I wanted to share my opinion on The Greatest Showman. I haven’t seen a musical, since High School Musical (all three movies) which was a really big part of my life growing up.

Since then I hadn’t really watched any musicals, in general there not something I particularly enjoy, I find them to be quite cheesy and quite frankly boring. Although when I saw The Greatest Showman trailer, I knew I had to see this film.

As soon as the film started I knew I was going to love it, the musical numbers were phenomenal. The story was never boring and it kept me at the edge of my chair for the whole 90+ minutes.

There were a few moments where I genuinely felt goosebumps and tears streamed down my face but there was a particular scene that made me feel empowered. ‘This is me’ is a pinnacle moment in the film where the circus feels like they’re no longer wanted because PT Barnum (Hugh Jackman) decides that he no longer needs them. This is where Lettie Putz, the bearded lady (Keala Settle) breaks into a heart wrenching ballad, with song lyrics “When the sharpest words wanna cut me down / I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out.” A song where she finally accepts herself as who she is and finds love within herself, which is truly magical to watch it unfold.

Also lets not mention the incredible chemistry and trapeze show that Zendaya and Zac Efron did with ‘Written in the stars’. The Greatest Showman is based in the 19th Century where class and race was a critical issue. It’s a song about star crossed lovers who want to be together but can’t.

I really related to the plot of the story, P.T Barnum started from the bottom and now he’s here. He came from a very poor family and managed to go against all odds and turn something that people thought was a joke to real entertainment and ended making something beautiful. He got people from around the world that were different to everyone else and made them feel special.

There was something really magical about the whole experience of watching the rise and fall of a man who had everything but never felt that it was enough. I think a lot of people feel that way, it’s in our nature to want more than what we need. We’re never really happy, just momentarily. This film really hit all the marks.

Also let's not forget how incredible the soundtrack is! I can't even put into words how great it is. No wonder it's become one the highest selling albums of 2018 so far.

If you haven’t seen this film, I honestly recommend it - not only do you laugh, but you cry, you dance, you want to sing (even though you don’t know the lyrics) and so much more. I legit came out of the cinema wanting to join the circus or start one.

10/10 will watch again
