Normani: The Artist We've All Been Waiting For

Normani Kordei Hamilton began her career by auditioning for the X factor USA (Season 2) as a solo artist.
After being eliminated in the second round of bootcamp, Normani was brought back to the show and put into a group alongside four other girls; Ally Brooke,  Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane Hansen and Camila Cabello, who later became Fifth Harmony.

In October 2013, Fifth Harmony release their first EP ‘Better Together’ and began touring around shopping canters all over the United States. This was Normani’s first taste at being a popstar. Subsequently in 2015 Fifth Harmony release their debut album ‘Reflection’, catapulting the girls into world stardom. They went on to release two more albums, one 2017 called ‘7/27’ (after the date they were formed) and second a self-titled album as a quartet. Later on in march 2018 the group announced their decision total an indefinite hiatus and pursue their solo careers.

Since being on hiatus Normani has been incredibly busy and is becoming one of the most successful out of the five. She started off her career by signing to management company S10 Entertainment and competed on season 24 of Dancing with the Stars, where she reached the finals and finished in third place.

On 14th February 2018 Normani along with Khalid released “Love Lies’ for the movie soundtrack of ‘Love, Simon’. Debuting at number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100, scoring the highest first-week position for a girl group member. This track charted for 28 weeks finishing at number 9. This gave fans a taste into what type of direction Normani was going when it came to her music. She  then collaborated with 6lack on the track ‘Waves’ and Sam Smith with ‘dancing with a stranger’. All these features became songs that had constant air-time and staple tracks for a lot of people.

As an artists, Normani has the vocals of a beautiful angel with a smooth and sultry style that brings tears to the eyes when you hear her sing. She is an artist that cannot be compared to anyone else (and shouldn’t be). She is paving her own legacy with her first solo track (with no features and co-written by Ariana Grande) ‘Motivation’ is an ode to the 90’s with a mix of Beyonce, Destiny’s Child and a sprinkle of Janet Jackson it is the perfect r&b  flavour with  a hip-hop groove completed with a trumpet breakdown that  pulls inspiration from Beyonce’s ‘Check on  It’ era and the brassy sounds of Homecoming. Accompanied by a fun and choreo-heavy music video that dispel any doubts about Normani’s own star power.

Furthermore Normani has been co-signed by the one and only Rihanna. Normani is featured in Rihanna’s Fenty X Savage Fashion Show (available only on Amazon Prime) and I think this tweet just says it all really.

Normani has shown that she is a force to be reckoned with and  she isn’t walking in anyone’s shadow.
